Tory MPs tips for managing budgets ‘woefully insensitive’

Sky News Australia host Piers Morgan says Conservative MP Lee Anderson’s assertion there are more people using food banks because they cannot cook is “woefully insensitive”.

“Here was me thinking people go to food banks because they’re literally penniless and have no option, but no, apparently, it’s because they don’t know how to cook or budget properly,” he said.

Mr Anderson said a family could make a healthy meal for as low as 30 pence, and Mr Morgan said “he might actually have been onto something” – if this was 1972.

Mr Morgan said last week, another senior Tory MP, George Eustice, went on television and advised the use of home brands to manage their budgets.

“Anderson and Eustice’s tone-deaf, woefully insensitive attitude reminds me of the haughty French queen Marie Antoinette who infamously said let them eat cake when told the peasants couldn’t afford bread,” he said.

“Let me remind these arrogant clowns that Marie Antoinette was the last queen of France before the country’s revolution.”
